Tips When Installing a New Light Fixture in Commercial Property

Adding a new light fixture in your commercial property has the ability to make the space more stylish and functional. If you had an old light fixture that has been removed, the process of installing a new light fixture is pretty straightforward.

However, it is important that before you begin installing a new light fixture that you are aware of the most helpful tips that are designed to make the process simpler.

Circuit Breaker

The first thing that you need to do when you are installing a new light fixture is to make sure that safety is maintained during this procedure by turning off the circuit breaker that this light is connected to. If you do not know for sure which breaker this switch is connected to, it is also sufficient to just shut off the main breaker.

Separate

You can now take a closer look at the light fixture that you wish to install. It will have two wires that come out from the fixture. One of these wires will be white and the other wire will be black. The white wire is the one that is neutral and the black wire is the hot wire. The wire that has the ridge that you will be able to feel is the one that is the white wire. These wires are often wrapped together when you first remove the new light fixture from packaging, so you will need to remove the wrapping and separate the wires. You will also need to use a wire stripper to prep these wires by removing the covering and exposing about an inch of wire on each end that is completely bare.

Attach

Once you have stripped the wires, you can then begin attaching the wires to the ceiling box where the light fixture will be installed. You will see a black and a white wire hanging from the ceiling box. There should also be another wire that is colored, which is the ground wire. You can attach the wires by matching up the white wires and attaching the section of the wires that are exposed. You can twist them together and then use a wire nut on the end to hold them in place.

The same technique can be used to attach the black wires together. With the ground wire, you will need to take the copper exposed part of this wire and secure it around the screw on the mounting bracket. Make sure that all of the wires it within the ceiling box securely before screw the mounting bracket into the ceiling.
